Amish women of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country have been creating exquisite Amish quilts since the mid-1800’s (and some imagine even earlier). Amish quilts are an expression of frugality. They not solely serve a sensible, useful purpose, however serve as a type of entertainment as well. Many times groups of Amish and Mennonite girls collect for a quilting bee. The bee is a type of socialization and rest for these women. It is a time when they can get together to go to and catch up” with one another once their family duties have been accomplished.
Many of you think that as a result of the quilting is finished, that the quilt is actually performed. Sadly, I know all too well that there actually is a considerable period of time left getting this blocked, certain and able to send off to its first show. I assumed I’d take this post to point out what I’m doing on that process, and document the actual time spent.
We had some great sunsets this winter too that I just had to share. Now it is spring and I can hardly imagine that Easter is true across the nook. This was an exceptionally attractive display of Mother Nature, proper from the back yard. What a palette this might be for a quilt!
